Summer Sway takes over The Shed’s outdoor, public Plaza for a summer celebration with the community, joy, and liberation that music and dance give us. This summer, we will reveal a public art installation celebrating the roots of hip hop, the legacy of breaking, DJing, MCing, and graffiti, and the myriad forms and genres which they inspire. The structures will visually and sonically ask folks to consider the depth of these roots, alongside hip-hop's global impact on society.

Penny's Puppets
For 50 years, Penny Jones & Co. Puppets have charmed audiences in the West Village with their Old Time interactive puppet theater in an intimate space for young children. The company has appeared on television and all over New York from the Highline, Parks and Piers, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and BAM. Penny Jones was awarded the Education Award from the Puppeteers of America and is a Westbeth Icon.

Soil Sessions: Earth Sounds with Koyoltzintli
Free. Spaces are limited. Registration opens Monday, July 1. An artist, healer, and educator drawing on ancestral forms of knowledge, Koyoltzinli presents a sound performance where she creates and activates soil-made reconstructions of ancient instruments, reanimating their hidden language and sound. The resulting composition, evoking the sounds of birds, trees, or the Andean landscape, is an offering and a farewell to Morelos’s exhibition at Dia Chelsea.
